  1. Three quarters of a century is a long time! It would give you a very interesting perspective. Personally I find being a woman just comes with the bits, I don’t have an issue with it and am not very political, but I think that’s because I’m the product of a post-feminist world and take all those advances for granted. Now, with Rick Santorum and the like questioning basic female freedoms, it’s time to get political, I think.

For any group that is oppressed by another group (subjects, peasants, slaves, cult followers, etc.), the oppression apparently needs to become intolerable before those in the oppressed group are motivated to resist or rebel. What is seen as intolerable depends very much on what you have gotten used to in the culture. This can be influenced by a larger understanding of the world (usually through education). Keep ’em ignorant so they won’t know any better and will submit to tyranny.
